Mechanical Engineer II

​

NK Labs is a product design engineering firm in Cambridge, MA. We design products and build prototypes for some of the best-known technology companies and the most innovative startups. We bring our clients' ideas to life and solve their toughest technical challenges. We are a team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers who work together to figure out what is possible within the laws of physics, and then work together to build it and get it into high-volume production.

Job Description


We are looking for a mechanical engineer to design novel mechanisms, electromechanical systems, weather-proof housings, and more. The candidate should have a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering, practical experience designing and building systems, and a willingness to get their hands dirty in the lab to solve problems.

Key Responsibilities


  • Work with customers and interdisciplinary teams to determine system requirements

  • Design parts in SolidWorks

  • Select component materials

  • Coordinate with machine shop or factories to ensure parts are made correctly

  • Collaborate with design teams to create, develop, and evaluate hardware architectures that best align with the application requirements

  • Work with clients on the design, analysis, and development of new prototypes from design review through to fabrication of production prototypes

  • Validate and troubleshoot prototypes


Requirements


  • At least four years experience designing mechanical hardware

  • CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)

  • Knowledge of additive and subtractive manufacturing methods and tooling

  • Experience with designing product architecture and concept selection

  • System-level thinking with structural, thermal, and fluid implications

  • Excellent communication, computer, reporting, and analytical skills

  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
